Guinea pig not eating for 7 days
So pinta i have a question for you becuase our vet doesnt really have a awnser for us as to what the problem is. so my theories are or she has a infection somewhere that makes her throat swelled up that she couldnt eat. in that case i hope that the antibiotics she got will help.
Or it is what you say that because of trauma or i saw that sedation could make her jaw muscles weaker and that she struggels to eat normal so maybe a a jaw sling would be better? on dutch sites i did see that they would give anobolics for it but ive also read that its not a good thingto give to guinea pigs.
To add when we give her food she does do weird movements with her jaw and then drop her food. i have it on video if its helpfull at all. thanks for the help!
I want to add that my vet that i went to does know about that issue but didnt add it in the report. its quite a thurough report but i could call and ask about it.

I'm thinking the jaw and the cut tongue are related. Being dropped is the most common way for pigs to bite their tongues. If there is a hairline fracture it will heal on its own if stabilized. But once healed, the jaw muscles will need to be built up again. It's also possible being dropped could result in a misalignment of the jaw. If that's the case the jaw must be forced into position so the jaw muscle can rebuild again to keep it in position.
So the first thing that must be done is to rule out a hairline jaw fracture. Dislocated jaws won't show up on X-rays as the jaw becomes relaxed under sedation. A Chin-Sling would work to keep the jaw in place as long as you can get it in place before putting on a Chin-Sling. In the case of a fracture the Chin-Sling would not be a good idea as the pressure it exerts could force the fracture to widen. Once a fracture is healed it can help rebuild jaw muscles.
It takes a surprisingly small amount of time for pigs to lose strength in their jaw muscles. But then again, considering they were designed to grind their teeth continually it makes sense that any halt in normal grinding activity would result in loss of muscle tone.

Thanks for awnsering pinta! I feel like if its a fracture that it would be spotted on the x-ray right? so i think i can rule that out. dislocation could still be a thing the chiropractor didnt feel it but we are going to another one tommorow to be sure but after that well see what happens. she i back on her normal weight and we are doing less force feeding to see if she keeps being stable. she also eats more and it seems to go alot better then before
