I just need to know if this is a horrible idea that can go wrong, or advice. Just conflicted!
I had a trio of guinea pigs:
Andy- 8 1/2 years old! Has been separated from two groupings- first time was with a pig who had lost his cage mate, second time was with 2 new boars I adopted. Both times ended in fights.
Kevin and Darryl- 5 years old. Adopted as a pair who were surrendered to petco. Darryl and Andy were the ones who got into a fight.
Kevin, Darryl, Andy have been neighbors since 2022 when the fight started. Andy always wants to see them, staring forlornly through the cage bars.
Darryl passed yesterday morning. I think today Kevin was lost when I first put him out for floor time.
Not going to lie, I currently have Andy and Kevin running around the room together. A lot of purring, mounting, Kevin popcorning and sprinting, Andy toddling along after him. They have gone their separate ways several times, then meet up again and repeat the process. Kevin. has mounted Andy a few times, otherwise Andy is the culprit.
No teeth chattering, no scary rumbling. I do worry Kevin is too rough for frail Andy, or Andy might hurt himself trying to keep up (Kevin is leaping over obstacles). But Andy is moving faster than ive seen him, and I cant remember the last time Kevin popcorned. And when they are running they keep making the chirp talking noise.
Bonding advice!
Cage: the pair were in 2 midwest cages put together (so almost 4ftx4ft). Solo pig is in the amazon version, so 2ftx4ft. So I can easily put the 3 together for a large cage. And pro is both of them are well past puberty. which is when I feel like both fights happened (and the second fight was because they were in temporary cages due to a family emergency).
Knock on wood i haven't heard any discouraging noises! I saw one corrective nip from Kevin to Andy when Andy was trying to nose past him while he had a good treat! I have the ramps in between the smaller and larger cage areas down, they spent the night in their old habits but when I went to check on them again they were in the larger cage together. Fingers crossed this works and they can spend their senior months/years/whatever we have left together!!
