Support Guinealynx in 2024!

Guinea Lynx has been online in some form since 2000!
I am dedicated to keeping Guinea Lynx going for as long as those people who value it are willing to help pay the basic costs of running the site. This will also depend on my physical and mental health. I give my time freely and only hope to cover hosting/internet and occasional stray expenses.
I normally put up this yearly post in January. However, many things (and procrastination) have gotten in the way so I am doing it now. At this moment in time, only one member has sent a contribution for 2024.
Should any of you wish to support the site, please email me for my home address. Checks work best since I am no longer using Paypal.
An easy, pain-free way to support the site is to use the Amazon Affiliate link found at the bottom of every forum page! Anyone who starts their Amazon shopping by clicking on that affiliate link before they make their purchases helps financially (at no cost to you). Last year's affiliates earnings contributed $180.54 toward running the site, perhaps not much but it helps. This year's affiliate contributions will likely be about the same.

As a thank you for any donation received, I can add a short line of text under your avatar/board name - "Supporter in '24" or one of your own choosing. Please remind me if I forget to ask (this is my official apology if I forget!)
While this may be a request for support, I also offer a very sincere thanks to all of you who come to read and post. I am especially indebted to members who answer questions about guinea pig care and monitor the medical board. Some of you know more than I do!!
I am proud of the difference you all make in the lives of guinea pigs and in each other's lives - sometimes in wonderful and unexpected ways. You provide the inspiration I need to keep going!

When I click on the email address, it comes up with: comment@ouinealynx.infg. For some reason the g changes to an o. I sent an email, it got returned, so I corrected the address and sent it again.

That is interesting! It is an image (so the email address does not get harvested) - not text. Perhaps whatever browser or operating system you are using tries to read the image and believes it to be a g.
Thanks in advance for your donation! Though I have done all I can to minimize the cost of running the site, I can't make the costs go away.
I feel it is amazing Guinea Lynx has been online for as long as it has!

Thanks to another member who has contributed to the operation of Guinea Lynx in the last couple of weeks!
If you would like to see GL continue to be available to guinea pig lovers around the world, your support can make it happen!
And on this Thanksgiving Day, I hope you all will be able to join friends and/or family for a memorable Thanksgiving! I just baked an apple pie to bring with me to a neighbor's house.
Be thankful for the good people and beloved pets in your lives.
And fight for what is right :-)

I checked the projected income from Amazon (thanks so much to those people who have used it!) and find that for this year, projected income from Amazon is $174.97 (currently received: $157.76 with $17.21 to be paid in December).
Still hoping for a few additional contributions so I can break even!

I still remember when I got my first pig - a friend had recently taken in an older guinea pig from neighbors who didn't want him anymore. Her dad, who had never been sick a day in his life, suddenly got sick. She asked if I could look after the pig when she had to go back to England see her dad. I figured it would be a week or two at the most that she'd be gone and agreed.
Two weeks passed, then a month, and I still hadn't heard anything from her as to when she would be back. This was back in the days before texting and WhatsApp. I knew nothing about guinea pigs and to learn more, I googled the web and that's when I found Guinea Lynx.
GL quickly became my go to resource on pig care. What a trove of information was on there - it was like finding lost treasure. I could post and get answers to my questions as well, sometimes within hours or less. I liked the straight forward, easy to read format of the site and, in addition to pig care, learnt about horses and turtles and owls. It became a great source of camaraderie that I looked forward to visiting daily, reading the various guinea pig Chronicles, sharing other pig owners' joys and experiences. Hence began my life long love of guinea pigs.
GL is quieter these days but is still a valuable resource for guinea pig care. I am greatly appreciative of Lynx keeping it going all these years. It really is a labor of love.
I hope others will chip in as well to keep the site going and continue to benefit pigs' lives all over the world.
(As to my friend's pig, when she returned after more than 2 months away, I realized I had fallen in love with him. She was more than happy for me to take him as she had her arms full with other pets of her own. The reason she had taken him in in the first place was because he was older and she knew he would have a hard time getting adopted. To this day, he was the sweetest pig I've ever known or had.)

I greatly appreciate that you are one of the people who has sent a donation, Waddles!
And I love your walk down memory lane! I learned so much about horses, turtles, and owls, too! There was a moment in time when Guinea Lynx was part of a widespread forum and mail-list world that was social media. Before the big companies showed up, hell bent on making money from us all. Supporting Guinea Lynx has always been voluntary - and as I noted, so many people have helped the site in immeasurable ways by sharing their own knowledge and experience. And my deep dislike of advertising has resulted in many years of ad-free reading (I did break down and add a simple Amazon link which a handful of people use)
I'm glad you fell in love with your friend's guinea pig, Waddles. My own journey mixes a love of my pets (former and current - I actually do not have guinea pigs right now) with my desire to share knowledge and work on the technical side of things. While the site is quieter, for me this also has the benefit of still being a size I can manage and contribute to.
At the moment, I'm perhaps 75% of the way toward covering all the costs. So anyone who makes a contribution will definitely help.
Thanks again to all of you who have already done so!
