Wilber and Grady
Wilber likes Grady and he does play with him sometimes. He also grooms him. He just doesn't want to do it all of the time like Grady does. I think having Gilligan and Skipper so close kept him in play mode most of the time. They have still been playing together, just not so much that Wilber gets upset enough to click his teeth.
Wilbur and Grady are now 3 years old . They were 5 weeks old when I got them on March 20, 2021 that puts their approximate birthday around the 14th of February, so this is a bit belated.They're both doing very well. Grady still likes to play and chases Wilber from time to time. Most of the time Wilber doesn't run from him when Grady wants him to, but Grady still has fun trying. Wilber is larger and outweighs Grady by about half a pound, but he doesn't assert his size and strength against him. He's too kind hearted and laid back for that. Grady is every bit as high strung and zany as he was when he was a pup. I love seeing that.
Skipper still likes to antagonize Gilligan the same as Grady does to Wilber. Neither situation requires separation, since both are very minor and never results in fighting or injuries. I've always thought that if it came to that, I could put Wilber with Gilligan and Grady with Skipper and get two pairs of guinea pigs, each with like personalities. I hope that never happens. Anyway, happy approximate birthday to these two wonderful boys! Extra carrots were given today.

Always happy to see anyone who comes to visit them. All of my piggies are. I like that they are friendly and outgoing instead of being afraid.
Had a graduation to attend in Reno and was gone for a week. We got home 3 days ago. My nephew took care of the guinea pigs for me. He did a good job, but Wilber has taken ill. It's nothing he did. Wilber has been eating normally up until tonight. For his morning feeding, he pulled the pan into the cage like he usually does and ate his usual amount. He was drinking water too. I did cage changes and when I picked him up, he seemed a little light. I decided to go to the garden and cut a bunch of wheat grass for him and Grady in the pen I keep them in while I do their bedding change. He ate his share of it. Then for his night veggies, he didn't pull the pan in and would only nibble at his food.
He's passing very small poops and there was 3 of them strung together with that fibrous stringy stuff. A sign of gastric distress. He's getting lethargic, but still a little bit alert. Grady won't leave him alone, so I set up a hospital cage and gave him some critical care and water. I put some fresh hay, some pellets, a couple of pieces of lettuce, carrot pieces and some wheat grass for him in case he feels better and decides to eat. I'll keep checking on him and giving him CC. Hopefully he feels better tomorrow. I'll have to check with the vet in Springfield and try to get him seen.

Wilber is a little better today. Eating a little more than last night, but still not what he usually does. He's sipping on his water too. I think the green lettuce might be a little harsh on his tummy, so I picked some of the tender red and green lettuce out of the greenhouse for him. He seems to like that better. He's eating bits of hay as well. No vet service until Monday, so let's hope he continues to go upward.
Wilber is eating a little better. Drinking water too. He's still pretty skinny but he's moving around and has some of his curiosity back. Still have him in the hospital cage. He seems to like not having Grady chase him around and harass him. He still has a ways to go, but it's looking positive for him so far. The wheat grass and tender lettuce leaves from the garden are a hit with all of the guinea pigs. It's a good feeling to be able to have fresh, home grown things to feed them.
Had Ava check his feces for parasites and nothing came up. If it had, they could have prescribed a dewormer. Since he's negative, they can't do any further diagnosis, since they don't have a cavy vet on their staff. They can diagnose obvious problems such as infection or gut immobility, and they can trim nails but that's pretty much the extent of what they do for guinea pigs.
I'm kinda at a loss here. He is eating, although less than his usual amount. Still enough so that he shouldn't be dropping weight as fast as he did. He's still drinking water too. He gets excited and climbs the cage when I bring food. He's barely 1.75 lbs and looks like he's shrinking in size. I hope it's not something like cancer. His eyes, nose, lungs are all clear. He's passing plenty of droppings, although they're smaller than usual because of the decreased food intake.
I gave him some carrot greens and he ate quite a bit of them. He eats the baby carrots I give him for a treat. He eats his lettuce, bell pepper and cucumber slowly over time. He doesn't have any difficulty grabbing, holding on to or chewing his food and his incisors don't look overgrown. He doesn't seem to be suffering any pain either and there's no sign of a stone, as he's passing urine without any blood in it. I'll have to make him an appointment with the clinic in Mountain Grove or Nixa. They can take a week or two to get him in. I hope he doesn't get worse before then.
