Since we don't have sugar cane around here (I don't think), not sure nutritional data is available. That would help you evaluate it as a food.

Correct me if I am wrong, but here goes. Sugar is a carbohydrate and most species of animals don't tolerate them well. Horses (we have two), pigs, rabbits, chinchillas, etc are animals that especially don't process sugar well. It does cause gas and colic in horses, stasis in the exotics. Just a quick answer, but I think that is the answer to what was asked.
