It sounds like they did a thorough exam. Nice that they got the syringes ready for you. I hope this gets his digestion going.

Hoping he feels better soon! Jill has little gut movement and gas and mushy poops. She is also on Metoclopramide tablets. But 10mg and only a tenth of a tablet. Hope you see improvement soon. Maybe a Probiotic will help too? Jill is on Pro8nature used to be Protexin. Good luck!

Thanks everyone. I'm definitely using the knowledge and experience I gained from Scruffy and what we went through together. Because of him, I know to keep plenty of critical care around and keep track of the expiration dates. I also keep probiotic powder and 1ml syringes on hand as well. It's like second nature when it comes to hand feeding guinea pigs. I know how to recognize when there's a potential problem and I know to start hand feeding critical care if they stop eating. I even read back through what I was posting during the ordeal from time to time to keep the information fresh.

What kind of probiotic powder are you giving? Does it have an expiration date?

He's in good hands. Doesn't critical care have some probiotic in it?

I have the benebac powder. It does have a "best by" date. It's good until March of this year. I haven't been giving BJ extra probiotic yet because his droppings are pretty normal and they're consistent with his food intake. Since most of his intake is critical care via hand feeding, I didn't see the need at this time. I'm feeding him enough, apparently because he hasn't dropped any weight and he's passing a good amount of droppings. He's not drinking water on his own but he's getting plenty by hand. We're going to keep pressing on with the treatment plan.

Not much change today. BJ did eat more lettuce last night, but none today. Continuing the critical care. He passed a lot of droppings at last night's feeding and two of them came out stuck together side by side. One regular sized and a small one stuck to it. He hunched his back a little bit, so it was clearly uncomfortable for him. This afternoon, he passed two that were not formed completely. He immediately ate both of them. I'm giving him about 7-10 mL of critical care every 4 hours.

I thought he'd be eating more on his own by now, but he isn't. I'll keep feeding him by hand for as long as it takes. He's halfway through the gut motility medication now. I was encouraged that he ate his lettuce last night, but that was short lived. We'll press on and keep hoping for the best.

So glad he is holding his own. Maybe try him with grass or something he likes as I think at first he disliked lettuce. Hoping he improves soon and is back to normal. Sending healing vibes. They nothing if they don't give their slaves grey hairs and on their toes.

If things are still moving, even if it's slowly, that's reassuring. I don't know if this makes a difference, but do you massage his belly?

BJ doesn't like his belly messed with even under normal circumstances. I'm already upsetting him enough, so I'm not rubbing his belly. Every time I give him a syringe full of critical care, I lift him up with my hand under his belly, so there's that. His bowels are moving, as I can hear gurgling. He's also passing some mushy and smelly poop, most of which he's eating.

He's eating a few pellets and minimal amount of veggies; not enough to sustain himself. I still don't get why he's not eating hay. He gets his final dose of metoclopramide tonight. I'm hoping that he will start eating that very soon. Until then, critical care for as long as necessary.
