When I picked Sweetheart up tonight I noticed that he had a piece of shaving in his eye. I removed it and the eye is red and a there is a little bit of discharge. It doesn't seem to be bothering him much.

I just need to know if there is anything I should be doing besides watching him closely and taking him to the vet if the eye seems to bother him. Any suggestions?

If the eye is scraped, you´ll need to give eye drops. In some cases the vet will abrade the rough edges away to reduce discomfort and help promote healing. My fave eye drop is Chloralean. I´ve also used Cipro eye drops and Gentocin.

He might be okay without a vet visit but any squinting, swelling, grey cast to the eye or obvious gouges/scrapes will require a visit. Sinking of the eye is not good either - usually means they're in pain.
